Now EYE Know! – Why is it important to have an annual contact lens fitting?

Why is it important to have an annual contact lens fitting?

Contact lenses are considered a medical device that is fitted to your unique eye. Each contact lens brand has a specific shape and fit on your eye. Some lenses may fit well while others may be too tight or too loose. Contacts are also made from different materials. Some materials may interact poorly with your ocular surface. This can cause blurred vision and even affect the health of your eye. It is important to check the fit of new lenses as well as lenses that you have already been wearing. The fit can change over time and it is important to make sure your eye is getting enough oxygen to remain healthy.

Dr. Aslam and Dr. Priest use a special microscope to physically evaluate the fit of your contact lenses and make sure your contacts are still healthy for your eyes. Sometimes during a fitting, we may determine that you require a different contact lens that allows more oxygen to your eye. There can be changes that you may not notice, but we can see during an exam. Annual contact lens fittings are very important in maintaining your eye health!

There are many types of contact lenses each with their own advantages and disadvantages. Click HERE to learn more about the wide variety of contacts our doctors can fit for you.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact Dr. Jennifer Aslam or Dr. Lara Priest!
